Overview
From the Billing section of BrightHub you can add new payment methods, edit existing ones, set a default payment method, and remove methods you no longer use. BrightHub supports SEPA Direct Debit and Credit/Debit Card payments via Stripe.
Before You Begin
- You must have Owner or Admin permissions to manage payment methods.
- Navigate to Billing from the left-hand navigation in BrightHub.
Adding a New Payment Method
- Go to Billing in BrightHub.
- Click Add Payment Method.
- Select your preferred payment method:
- SEPA Direct Debit — recommended for recurring subscriptions. Payments are taken directly from your bank account.
- Credit/Debit Card — pay from a specific bank card.
- Click Next and enter the required contact information.
- You will be redirected to Stripe to enter your bank or card details securely.
- Once saved, the new payment method will appear in your Billing page and can be selected for any active or new subscription.
✔ Tip: SEPA Direct Debit is the most efficient method for recurring subscription payments as it processes automatically without requiring manual renewal.
Editing an Existing Payment Method
- Go to Billing in BrightHub.
- Find the payment method you want to update in the list.
- Click Edit next to that method.
- The Edit Payment Record window opens. Update the relevant contact details.
- Click Save Changes.
Removing a Payment Method
To remove a payment method, click the Remove button next to it on the Billing page. A payment method cannot be removed if it is:
- Currently being used on an active subscription
- Set as your default payment method
To remove a method that meets either of these conditions, first switch the subscription or default to a different payment method, then remove the original.
Setting a Default Payment Method
Your default payment method is used automatically for new subscriptions and purchases. To change it, go to Billing and select Set as Default next to the method you want to use as your default.
Troubleshooting
My payment is failing
- Check that the card or bank account details are correct and up to date.
- Check with your bank that the payment is not being blocked — some banks flag new online payment setups as suspicious.
- Try removing and re-adding the payment method, then retry.
I cannot remove a payment method
- The method is either linked to an active subscription or set as your default. Update those references first, then remove the method.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is my payment information stored securely?
A: Yes. Payment details are handled by Stripe, a PCI-DSS compliant payment processor. BrightHub does not store card or bank account numbers directly.
Q: Can I use different payment methods for different subscriptions?
A: Yes. When editing a subscription, you can select which payment method to use for that specific subscription.
