| Overview |
Once you have created and opened a Partnership Tax Return in BrightTax, this article explains how to navigate its structure — the tabs, the left-hand menu, the partnership income pages, and the bottom toolbar.
| The PTR Tabs |
| Tab | What It Contains |
|---|---|
| Summary | Partnership details, supplementary page selection, and task action buttons |
| SA800 | The core partnership return covering partnership details and income sources |
| Submission History | A record of all submissions made for this return |
| The Summary Tab — Partnership Details and Supplementary Pages |
From the Summary tab, the left-hand menu gives access to:
- Partnership Details — the main partnership information including the partnership's UTR, trade details, and accounting period.
- What Makes Up the Tax Return: Supplementary Pages — where you add the income schedules required for the return.
- Partners — where you link individual partners to the return and manage their allocations.
| SA800 — Core Partnership Return |
The SA800 tab contains the core statutory pages of the partnership return. Navigate using the left-hand menu to access each section. Key sections include:
| Section | What It Covers |
|---|---|
| Partnership Details | UTR, partnership type, accounting period dates, and nominated partner details |
| Partnership Trade | Trading income, turnover, expenses, and profit — the main income section for a trading partnership |
| Partnership UK Property | Rental income from UK property held by the partnership |
| Partnership Foreign Income | Foreign income sources attributable to the partnership |
| Partnership Savings and Investments | Interest and investment income at partnership level |
| Declaration | The statutory declaration — must be completed before submission |
| Adding Supplementary Pages |
Where the partnership has income types beyond the core trade income, supplementary pages can be added via the Summary tab:
- Go to the Summary tab and click What Makes Up the Tax Return: Supplementary Pages.
- Tick the checkbox next to each supplementary page required.
- Click the + symbol to open and complete each page.
- Switch to Edit mode and enter the required data.
- Click Save before moving to the next page.
| Bottom Toolbar |
| Button | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Check and Calculate | Validates the return and calculates the partnership income totals and allocations |
| Produces a PDF of the partnership return and partner statements | |
| Submit to HMRC | Submits the completed return to HMRC |
| Three-dot menu (⋯) | Contains Discard and Submit Amended options |
| ⚠ Important: Always run Check and Calculate before submitting. This validates partner allocations and income totals, and will flag any errors that need to be resolved before the return reaches HMRC. |
