Overview
Partner statements show each individual partner's share of the partnership income, losses, and other amounts for the tax year. In BrightTax, partner statements are generated automatically once partner shares have been set and income has been allocated. They are used as the basis for each partner's Individual Tax Return.
Accessing Partner Statements
- Open the Partnership Tax Return.
- Run Check and Calculate from the bottom toolbar to ensure the latest figures are calculated.
- Go to the Summary tab and click Partners from the left-hand menu.
- Click on an individual partner's name to view their statement.
- The partner statement shows their allocated share of each income type, any losses, and other relevant amounts.
✔ Tip: Always run Check and Calculate before reviewing partner statements. The figures shown in the statements are based on the most recent calculation — if data has been updated since the last calculation, the statements may not reflect the latest position.

- The statement will be produced as a PDF.
Using Partner Statements for Individual Tax Returns
Each partner uses their statement figures when completing their own Individual Tax Return. In BrightTax, partnership income is entered on the SA104 (Partnership) supplementary schedule of the partner's ITR. The figures from the partner statement should be transferred to the relevant boxes on SA104.
✔ Tip: For firms using BrightTax for both the partnership return and the partners' Individual Tax Returns, keep the PTR and each partner's ITR open in separate browser tabs to make transferring figures straightforward.
Troubleshooting
A partner's statement is showing zero or incorrect figures
- Check that the partner's share percentage has been correctly set in the Partners tab.
- Confirm that income has been allocated by clicking Allocate Partners Income in the Partners tab.
- Re-run Check and Calculate and review the partner statement again.
A partner is not showing in the Partners list
- The partner must be linked to the return from the Partners tab in the Summary. Confirm the partner exists as an Individual client in BrightTax and has been added to the return.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do partner statements need to be submitted to HMRC?
A: Partner statements are not submitted separately to HMRC — they are produced as part of the SA800 Partnership Tax Return, which is submitted as a single return. Individual partners then report their allocated income on their own ITRs.
Q: Can I adjust a partner's statement figures manually?
A: Individual partner figures are determined by the share percentages and allocation applied to the partnership income. To change a partner's statement, adjust the share percentages or income allocation rather than editing the statement directly.
Q: How do I transfer a partner's figures to their Individual Tax Return?
A: In the partner's ITR, add the SA104 Partnership supplementary schedule and enter the figures from their partner statement. See Subschedules Overview: Which SA Pages Do I Need for guidance on SA104.
