Overview
The Individual Tax Return Status Report provides a complete view of all ITRs across your client base, showing their current status. It is the primary tool for managing Self Assessment workload, tracking which returns are in progress, awaiting approval, or submitted, and identifying any that are overdue.
How to Run the ITR Status Report
- From the main navigation, click Reports in the left-hand menu.
- Select ITR Status from the reports list.
- Apply filters as needed:
- Tax Year — select the tax year you want to view.
- My Clients Only — tick to show only clients assigned to your user account.
- Include Completed — tick to include returns with a Completed or Submitted status.
- Click Run Report or Apply Filters.
- Review the results — each row shows a client, their tax year, and the current ITR status.
✔ Tip: Run this report regularly during Self Assessment season to track progress across your client base and identify returns that need attention before the 31 January deadline.

Using the Report for Workload Management
The ITR Status Report is most useful when combined with the My Clients Only filter and run per user. This allows each team member to see their own outstanding workload at a glance. Managers can run the report without the My Clients Only filter to see the full practice view.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I filter by multiple tax years at once?
A: The report filters to one tax year at a time. To see returns across multiple years, run the report separately for each year.
Q: A return I submitted is not showing as Submitted in the report — what should I check?
A: Check the Submission History tab on the specific return to confirm the submission was successful. If the submission history shows Submitted but the status report does not reflect this, try refreshing the report.
Q: Can I click through to an ITR directly from the report?
A: Yes. Click on the client name or return row to open the ITR directly from the report.
