July 2026 closes the remaining feature gap with BTC Software across capital allowances, notes, and income breakdown

A General Notes field is available on every return. SA100 detailed breakdown now supports 26 boxes — the same coverage as the desktop application. Every BrightTax return now has a General Notes field — handover information stays with the return
Teams can now attach internal notes to any return in BrightTax — handover information, client-specific instructions, or follow-up reminders. Notes are visible to all team members who open the return and are never submitted to HMRC, never printed, and never affect the return calculation.
General Notes on all return types — one place to record what the next person needs to know A free-text Notes field is now available on the summary screen of every BrightTax return. Switch to Edit mode, add your note, and save. The note travels with the return.

SA100 detailed breakdown now covers 26 boxes — matching BTC Software in full
BrightTax previously supported line-by-line breakdown entry on 16 SA100 boxes. This release adds 10 more, bringing total coverage to 26 — the same as BTC Software. Accountants can now enter supporting detail for a wider range of income sources, including bank interest, foreign dividends, pensions, incapacity benefit, other taxable income, Gift Aid, and charity gifts.
10 additional SA100 boxes now support line-by-line breakdown entry Click the drill-down icon next to any supported SA100 box to enter individual line items with date, description, amount, and reference. The summary total updates automatically from the line items — no separate entry needed.

A consistent Edit / Read-Only mode is now live across all BrightTax returns
BrightTax returns open in read-only mode by default — protecting data from accidental changes and ensuring only one user can edit at a time. The Edit / Read-Only toggle is now available across all return types, completing the rollout across the platform.
Edit mode is now available on all return types — including AP, CT, and prior-year returns Use the toggle in the bottom-left corner of any return screen to switch between Read Only and Edit mode.
