| Overview |
From the Members page in BrightHub, Owners and Admins can manage every aspect of a member's access — changing their role, updating product access, resetting their 2FA, transferring ownership, or removing them from the organisation entirely.
| Before You Begin |
- You must have Owner or Admin permissions to manage members.
- Navigate to Members from the left-hand navigation in BrightHub.
| How to Manage a Member |
- Go to Members in the left-hand navigation.
- Find the member you want to manage in the list.
- Click the Manage button to the right of their record.
- Select the relevant option from the menu (see options below).
| Available Management Options |
For Pending (Invited) Members
If a member's status shows as Invited, they have been sent an invitation but have not yet accepted it. The available options are:
- Resend Invitation — sends the invitation email again to the member's email address.
- Cancel Invitation — cancels the pending invitation. The member will no longer be able to use the original invite link.
For Active Members
Once a member has accepted their invitation, the following options are available:
| Option | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Edit Role | Changes the member between Admin and User. Only the Owner can change a member to Owner. |
| Edit Access | Adds or removes product access for this member. Removing access takes effect immediately. |
| Reset 2FA | Resets the member's two-factor authentication method. See the 2FA behaviour table below. |
| Transfer Ownership | Assigns this member as the new Owner of the organisation. Only available to the current Owner. This action removes the Owner role from the current user. |
| Revoke Membership | Removes the member from the organisation immediately, including all product access. This cannot be undone — you would need to re-invite them. |
| Reset 2FA — Behaviour by Method |
When you reset a member's 2FA, the system behaviour depends on the authentication method they currently use:
| Current 2FA Method | What Happens on Reset |
|---|---|
| Authenticator App | Resets back to the setup stage. The member will be prompted to set up their authenticator app again on next login. |
| SMS | Changes the method to email authentication. The member can switch back to SMS or authenticator app once logged in. |
| No automated action is taken. If the member no longer has access to their email address, revoke their membership and re-invite them using their new email address. |
| ⚠ Important: Revoking membership is immediate and cannot be undone. If you need to temporarily remove access, consider using the Blocked option within BrightTax instead. |
| Troubleshooting |
A member cannot log in after a 2FA reset
- Check which 2FA method is now active for the member — if reset from SMS it will have changed to email.
- Ask the member to check their inbox for the verification email from Bright.
- If they still cannot access their email, revoke their membership and re-invite using an accessible email address.
The Transfer Ownership option is not showing
- Transfer Ownership is only available to the current Owner of the organisation. If you are an Admin, you will not see this option.
| Frequently Asked Questions |
Q: Can I have more than one Admin in my organisation?
A: Yes. You can assign Admin permissions to as many members as needed. There can only be one Owner.
Q: What happens to a member's data when I revoke their membership?
A: Their access is removed immediately. Data they created within BrightTax or other products is retained — only their access is revoked.
Q: Can a revoked member be re-invited?
A: Yes. You can re-invite them using the standard invite process on the Members page.
